Hypnotherapy...Mind Power Makes Miracles

Most people live at one tenth of their potential and settle all of the time. But why should you?  Especially when success, prosperity, good health and vitality are so easily accessible.  Discover the power of your sub-conscious mind to relieve chronic pain, achieve & maintain your ideal weight, stop smoking, improve self-esteem & self-image, improve motivation, improve sports performance (imagine taking a few points of your golf game), enhance public speaking, and much more.

We invite you to take this opportunity to tap into the full potential of your mind.  To live your life feeling a sense of calm and confidence. Allowing yourself to remove any old programming (negative self-talk) that you no longer chose to operate by. You deserve to be the best you can be, and Hypnosis can help you achieve your goals.

Everything originates in your mind. How you feel, what you do and how you connect with others is determined by your thinking. When your unconscious mind fails to fully support your conscious desires, willpower alone does not seem to be enough to overcome unhealthy habits and behaviors.

You need a way to program your unconscious to better serve you. That is what Hypnosis is all about. Bypassing the critical faculty and communicating with the subconscious mind can create rapid, permanent change.

Hypnosis can help you change your mind.

What is Hypnosis?

brainwrk1The brain operates in four general states determined by the frequency of the electricity generated by the exchange of chemicals in the neural pathways. The four states include Full Conscious Awareness, the Hypnotic State, the Dream State, and the Sleep State.

These four states correspond to electrical activity in the brain and are defined by frequency ranges on an EEG. Full Conscious Awareness occurs when the majority of the electrical activity in the brain is in the beta range (14-35 Hz).  The Hypnotic State occurs when brain activity is in the alpha range (8-13 Hz). The Dream State occurs when brain activity is in the theta range (4-7 Hz), and the Sleep State occurs when brain activity is in the delta range (.5-3 Hz).
Full Conscious Awareness is where which we spend most of our waking hours. In this state, our mind is attentive and uses logic to reason, evaluate, assess, judge, and make decisions. Unfortunately, when making life changes, the conscious mind often gets in the way.

“Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that allows you to use your subconscious mind to learn new behaviors and achieve goals, rapidly and effectively.”

In the Hypnotic State, the doorway between the conscious and the subconscious is opened, memories become easily accessible, and new information is stored.  In the Hypnotic State, you are not really "thinking" in the traditional sense.  You are "experiencing" without questioning, without critical judgment or analysis, like when you watch a movie, and the hypnotherapist can make suggestions that are very likely to "stick" - precisely because your conscious mind is not getting in the way.  You are not "judging" or being "critical" of the suggestions.

We pass through all four bands sequentially as the electrical activity decreases on our way to sleep and as it increases up on our way to total wakefulness.  Regardless of whether we are on our way to sleep or to wakefulness, when we pass through the upper theta/lower alpha range we go into hypnosis automatically.  There is no power on earth that can stop it from happening but likewise, there is no person or power on earth that can force you into it; you must want to go into hypnosis and follow the hypnotist's direction to the letter.

The will located in the conscious way of functioning is always present, always working.  If for some reason you will yourself not to allow the suggestions to be accepted, they won't be.  The smoker who comes in to quit smoking but is not really committed to that goal, cannot be forced to do so.

As to the issue of the subconscious' chief concern for the clients' health and welfare, the subconscious function of the mind begins to operate long before the conscious mind, in early childhood. On the level of instinct, the strategies for self-preservation and survival are irrevocably etched in the subconscious.

The conscious along with its critical faculty develops later in early childhood. By this time, the subconscious had firmly embedded in it the instinct to survive---to keep the organism well and healthy.

A less technical definition of hypnosis is:  A naturally occurring altered state of consciousness in which the critical faculty is bypassed (mind in the conscious mode) and acceptable selective thinking established.

This simply means that the reasoning, evaluating, judging part of your mind (conscious) is bypassed.  While we wonder how this could possibly happen, we are subject to it all the time.  The advertising industry is dedicated to bypassing our critical judgment all the time in order to influence our buying behavior.

We suspend our critical judgment other times when an authority figure makes some sort of comment; doctors, clergy, professors, and many more fall into this category.

Children suspend their critical judgment frequently in games of "let's pretend". Actors do it in playing a part;  they have to suspend their critical faculty, and they ask the audience to suspend theirs to accept them as being someone else.

With the critical faculty bypassed, specific thoughts/suggestions can be lodged in the subconscious where they can propel the client toward a desired goal or change behavior in a positive, permanent way. Any such suggestions must be acceptable to the client, of course.  They would have no effect otherwise.

This focus on a specific goal or behavior is done with laser-like precision and intensity in hypnosis.  It's a little like looking through a telescope from the wrong end.  You see just one tiny spec of the environment in focus though you may be aware of everything around it.

How does Hypnosis work?

iceberg1Many people think hypnosis is a magical and mysterious form of mind control. But the truth is, the only person controlling your mind is you!  You have the power and the capability to change habits, overcome problems and achieve goals.

Let me explain.  Your mind operates on three separate levels, conscious, subconscious and unconscious. Like the iceberg to the left, most of what you can or cannot do is deeply programmed into your subconscious mind. Only a small portion of our actions are guided by the conscious mind...the part of the iceberg above the water.  So you can easily see that by access the vast resource that lies below the surface, you have the ability to make major changes easily.

The left side of your brain—your conscious mind—is the analytical side. This side governs speech and reason, and reacts to words. The right side of your brain—your subconscious mind—is the creative, imaginative side.  The right side manages emotion and is engaged by images and tone of voice. These two sides of your brain share information, but during interaction one side will dominate depending on the information being exchanged and processed. For example, when you see friends the right side—your subconscious—is responsible for recognizing them, while your left side—your conscious—is at work saying “hello” and greeting them by name. Your brain of course, continuously receives a multitude of complex pieces of information and so brain domination must switch very swiftly and often.

The third part of your mind—your unconscious—is located in the center of the brain. The unconscious mind stores memories and regulates all the automatic functions of the body. All sensory perceptions arrive here first, and the unconscious processes the information, directing the body to an automatic physiological response (touch something hot, you pull your hand away), or passing the information to the conscious or subconscious for more processing.

It is important to understand that your unconscious mind operates on a habitual and instinctive level. Habitual and instinctive responses are based on previous programming, or conditioning. Ultimate control of the mind and body resides within your unconscious mind.

So, where does hypnosis come in? Well, because your conscious mind—your will—analyzes all information, it will frequently reject new ideas, making it difficult for you to remove blocks and learn new behaviors, in fact making it hard for you to change your mind. The subconscious, however, rather than rejecting new ideas readily accepts all information.

Hypnosis, quite simply, inhibits the conscious, engages the subconscious, which in turn effectively influences the unconscious, resulting in the new thought and changed behavior.

What Hypnosis does not do.

If you have never experienced hypnosis, you may have some questions or concerns.

There are many unwarranted scare stories that surround the use of hypnosis... the following list, thought not exhaustive, should help to dispel any groundless worries or fears that you might have.

*You cannot ‘get stuck’ in hypnosis - this is actually quite impossible.
*You cannot be made to do things you don’t want to.
*You do not go to sleep - you are totally aware of yourself and your surroundings at all times.
*You can leave the hypnotic state whenever you want to.
*You cannot ‘lose your mind’ or be in any way ‘possessed’.
*You will not suddenly blurt out any dark secrets!
*You are not in anybody’s power and nobody can take control of you in any way, the therapist is there to assist you, not make you do anything.

*There is no such thing as a ‘hypnotized feeling’ so you won’t actually feel hypnotized at all. In fact, what is most likely is a feeling of calmness and relaxation, though not everybody experiences even that.

*You will hear the hypnotherapist...well, because they will be talking to you.

*You will probably remember everything the hypnotherapist says to you, although sometimes you are feeling so relaxed and thinking about other things, that you may not recall everything they said. You do not have to remember everything for it to be successful.  Just like when someone is talking to you and you aren't really listening.

You are always in control of the session.

I’m not sure if I can be Hypnotized.

Hypnosis conditioning is not about mind control, so your cooperation is necessary.

While everyone can be hypnotized, because hypnosis is a normal subconscious state, you can resist if you wish.  If you have a genuine desire to change a behavior or habit, overcome a fear, or learn a new skill, then resisting hypnosis ruins your capacity to follow the suggestions and  motivate your mind for change.

If, however, you focus your attention on the hypnotist’s words and allow yourself to be guided into the hypnotic state, your subconscious will be stimulated to accept suggestions that will motivate your unconscious to take the action suggested.

So the ability to be hypnotized lies within you. We, the hypnotists, don’t force you to follow orders. Instead we employ appropriately phrased suggestions to you subconscious mind, your memory and your imagination  help you achieve your goals.

While it is possible to change habits and behavior through your conscious reasoning mind, by allowing yourself to be guided into the hypnotic trance, (bypassing your conscious mind and utilizing your subconscious), you enter a state of mind where learning is highly effective, and nine times faster than usual.

Okay, so I can be Hypnotized, but what will it feel like?

Since Hypnosis is a result of engaging your imagination and your memory, your experience will be unique to you.  The hypnotic state is frequently likened to daydreaming— it is common to feel very relaxed and clients often report sensations of “heaviness” or “drifting”. Being very relaxed is not a requirement of hypnosis but does assist in suppressing the conscious and increasing unconscious responses.

Have you ever watched a movie where you became totally wrapped up in the story? As the movie progresses you become less aware of what is happening around you and more involved in the characters and the story. Time becomes unimportant.  Your focus and concentration is on the screen in front of you. You might cry, tense up during a scary part, or laugh— your imagination is engaged. Your react as if the story were true. You feel.

And at the end of the movie you won’t recall every word or every image, but frequently thoughts, ideas and images that fired your imagination and triggered emotion stay with you, and you might talk about those with your friends, or do something differently because of the way you feel. Hypnosis is very much like this.

Often the fear of being “unconscious” during hypnosis stops a client from enjoying the benefits of the hypnotic state. Remember that hypnosis is a subconscious state, not an unconscious one. You will hear and understand what is being said, although you won’t necessarily remember everything exactly.

How many Sessions will I need, to change?

The number of sessions will depend upon the goal you wish to achieve, your suggestibility, your cooperation and the extent of your motivation.

Most goals can be achieved in 1 to 4 sessions. Some situations require more conditioning, and these include weight control, relationship building, improving self-image, and elimination of irrational fears.

Your suggestibility will be ascertained by how you respond to the suggestions made. It is common for a client to ask, “Do I need to experience deep hypnosis for results?” The answer is no. While deep hypnosis does facilitate faster learning, in general most people achieve their goals through light to medium trance depth or level of hypnosis. Since hypnosis is a conditioning process, most people tend to experience deeper trance with each session.

Those people who have difficulty experiencing more than a light trance can usually benefit from hypnosis, although more conditioning is typically needed.

How motivated are you? It makes sense that an individual who really wants to change has a distinct advantage in motivating the mind to make that change. Your level of cooperation is up to you.

Sit back, relax and engage the power of your mind.
